Tradition
Music and dancing has been a very important part of the everyday life of Naxian people, ever since ancient times. That is why the “panigyria” (traditional festivals) are organized every year, and especially during summer times, giving the opportunity to both locals and visitors to live a true Naxian celebration.
Speaking of music one cannot but mention the “kotsaki”, (a two-verse poem), which is composed for every occasion, in times of joy or sadness, and is most commonly encountered in villages such as the beautiful Apeiranthos.
Another important custom is the “rakitzia” or “hadjanemata”, held in October. During this period, the grapes are processed in the traditional way and make a local drink called “raki”, very popular, especially during wintertime, as it is the perfect “weapon” against the cold of winter.
